SOFTBALL: Wednesday's roundup, Fannett-Metal pulls off upset over Everett

FANNETT-METAL 5, EVERETT 3 >> After suffering a 10-1 loss at the hands of Everett earlier this season, Fannett-Metal's softball team got revenge with a 5-3 Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference victory on Wednesday.

The Tigers (3-15, 2-12 SHL, 2-10 ICC) led throughout the game and held off a pair of Warrior rallies in the final two innings. Everett loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth inning but came away with just one run. Then in the seventh, the Warriors put runners on the corners with nobody down, but Brooke Harris got out of the inning with no harm to pick up the save.

"Today, we played the way I know we're capable of playing," F-M coach Michael DeAngelo said. "We played clean defense and executed when we needed to at the plate."

Amanda Laye finished 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored, and Mandy Swailes was also 3-for-4 with a double and three runs driven in. Kassie Holtry got the win on the mound, giving up just three runs in five-plus innings to pick up her first win of the season. She is 1-4.
