SOFTBALL: Friday's roundup


FORBES ROAD 15, MCCONNELLSBURG 0 >> Forbes Road dominated from start to finish in a Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference win over McConnellsburg.

The Cardinals (6-4, 5-4 SHL, 5-3 ICC) racked up 15 runs on 13 hits, while the Spartans (1-9, 1-8 SHL/ICC) had just three hits in the four-inning affair.

"The girls played really well today," Forbes Road coach Beth Bryant said. "We hit well and fielded well behind Courtney Schoen, who pitched a great game."

Tina Parsons finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Cardinals, and Olivia Hall finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Hannah Purnell and Schoen, who also scored three times, both went 2-for-3.

For the Spartans, Bridgette Ritchey, Madison Koontz and Chelsea Danner all had singles.

FANNETT-METAL 9, ROCKWOOD 6 >> Fannett-Metal got a big day from its seniors in a non-league victory over Rockwood.

"Our seniors picked us up today when we needed them, and Brooke (Harris) pitched a solid game," Tiger coach Mike DeAngelo said. "It was a nice team win."

Melissa Zeger led F-M (2-11) by going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a home run. Candice Cornell was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Amanda Laye notched her second home run of the season — a two-run shot —and she finished with three RBIs and scored two runs.

CHESTNUT RIDGE 12 , SOUTHERN FULTON 2 >> A short-handed Southern Fulton team struggled in a Sideling Hill League league loss to Chestnut Ridge.

The Indians (4-7, 3-6 SHL) had only three players in their normal positions, and the Lions scored seven runs combined in the second and third innings to take a commanding lead. Erica Hoffman finished with a pair of hits for Southern Fulton, and Drew Hann had a double. Hope Swope also had a single for the Indians.
