SOFTBALL: Tuesday's roundup, Chambersburg can't push runs across in loss to Mifflin County

LEWISTOWN >> Chambersburg's softball team out-hit Mifflin County on Tuesday, but a rough first inning and some bad luck proved costly.

The Huskies put up three runs in the first inning, and the Trojans couldn't push across any in a 4-0 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division loss. Chambersburg (6-5, 4-5 MPC) had seven hits, but Lily Nolan was the only player to finish with more than one – she went 2-for-3.

"There were probably three different times where our girls hit the ball hard, but the wind was really buzzing, and it killed the ball," Chambersburg co-coach Ted Bittinger said. "If not for the wind, there's a chance all three of them go over the fence."

Mifflin County opened the game with three runs in the first inning. Laken Myers (4-2) struck out the first batter of the game, but the next two Huskies walked, and a single and a double helped Mifflin County take a 3-0 lead.

"I was really pleased with the way we hit and Laken's pitching," Bittinger said. "She had some calls we didn't think went her way in the first inning, but we can't blame the umpires. We just have to turn things around. It was just one of those games."

"Unfortunately, it seemed like our girls didn't respond well after the first loss," Tiger coach Mike DeAngelo said.

Northern Bedford won the first game on a one-out RBI-single from Peyton Leidy.

The Tigers (1-11, 1-9 SHL, 1-8 ICC) then managed only five hits in the second game.

"It was a good team win over a good team in the improving IPSL," Mercersburg coach John David Bennett said. "I didn't even realize Sydney had that many strikeouts until I looked at the book."
