WILLOW HILL >> Offense was the name of the game for both Southern Fulton and Fannett-Metal in a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference softball game on Wednesday.

The teams combined for 31 hits, but it was the Indians who came out on top, earning a 12-9 victory.

"We put the bat on the ball well tonight," SF coach Stacy Smith said. "We also ran the bases well, which was an improvement over last game."

The Indians (4-3, 3-2 SHL, 3-1 ICC) got off to a strong start, putting up five runs in the first inning, and although the Tigers (0-9, 0-6 SHL, 0-5 ICC) clawed their way back in it, they couldn't complete a comeback.

Olivia Mottern had a fine game for SF. She earned the win on the mound and finished 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a home run. Lakyn Morton was also 4-for-5, and Kylie Covalt had two hits and two RBIs.

The Tigers were led by Brooke Harris, who went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, and Mandy Swailes was 4-for-4 with two doubles.

FORBES ROAD 6-6, SOUTHERN HUNTINGDON 3-5 >> Forbes Road put up six runs in each game of an Inter-County Conference doubleheader, which was enough for a pair of wins against Southern Huntingdon.

Courtney Schoen limited the Rockets to just five hits in the first game, and the Cardinals won 6-3. In the second game, Forbes Road (5-3, 4-2 ICC) racked up 13 hits en route to a 6-5 victory.

Schoen, who was credited with the win in both games, allowed only one earned run and struck out one in the opener. She then relived Tina Parsons in Game 2, and allowed just one hit in two innings of work.

"Courtney Schoen threw a great game tonight and got her first varsity win," FR coach Beth Bryant said. "We played very well as a team, and it was a good win. We hit well and finished the day strong with a second win."

Hannah Purnell finished the day with five hits, and Haley Lashinsky had four, including a home run.

NORTHERN BEDFORD 10, MCCONNELLSBURG 7 >> It took 10 innings, but Northern Bedford eventually took down McConnellsburg in a Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference showdown.

Both teams finished with 11 hits, but the Titans put four runs across in the top of the 10th, and the Spartans (1-7, 1-5 SHL, 1-6 ICC) couldn't match it.

"It was a tough one," McConnellsburg coach Junior Swope said. "We had our chances, but they were playing just a bit better. We're coming around, though. We're starting to play a little bit together, and we'll get there soon."

Despite taking the loss, Justice Seville did a fine job on the mound. She threw the full game, scattering 11 hits, walking five and striking out one.

Caitlin Lynch finished 3-for-5 with a double, and Bridgette Ritchey was also 3-for-5 with a double.
