SOFTBALL: Thursday's roundup, Shippensburg rallies to defeat Waynesboro, 12-9

SHIPPENSBURG >> After two innings against Waynesboro on Thursday, Shippensburg's softball team was treading water.

The Maidens scored six runs in the first two innings behind two errors and a Tiffany Stull home run, but the Lady Hounds rebounded with seven runs in the third and fourth innings and pulled out a 12-9 Mid Penn Colonial Division win.

"Our defense was not sound tonight, and Waynesboro took advantage of the extra chances we gave them," Ship coach Mike Peters said. "Lexi (Wolfe) pitched well, but our defense let her down."

Waynesboro (0-5, 0-2 MPC) got two hits apiece from Nicole Kreimer and Katie Wise, and Kreimer, Wise, Stull and Elizabeth Churchman all scored twice.

For Shippensburg (4-1, 2-0 MPC) Wolfe finished 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, and Courtney Coy finished 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs driven in. Nicole Baker also finished 2-for-3.

Peters said, "We hit the ball hard enough to make up for our mistakes, but we have to play better than this if we expect to make a run at the division."
