SOFTBALL: Errors hurt Chambersburg in 6-3 loss to State College

STATE COLLEGE >> After winning its first two games of the season by big margins, the Chambersburg softball team is now saddled with a three-game losing streak.

The Trojans were defeated 6-3 by State College on Thursday afternoon in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division game in which they committed four errors to none for the Little Lions (2-2, 2-2 MPC).

"We're blessed with a lot of good, solid athletes, but we seem to be putting too much pressure on ourselves to perform, and it's not working," Chambersburg co-coach Ted Bittinger said. "We're going to give the girls three days off and try to get back on track next week. Right now, we seem to be under extensive pressure and we need to loosen up and play our game."

The Little Lions went ahead 4-0 by the end of three innings. Leah Hunt belted a home run for the Trojans (2-3, 1-3 MPC) in the fourth and teammate Tara Harmon had a two-run blast in the sixth.

Chelsea Sommerville and Sam Bender, who took the loss on the mound, had the other hits for Chambersburg.

Bittinger said, "It drizzled the whole time, which made it tough to get your footing. But we both had to play in it."

State College leadoff hitter Alyssa Shedlock was 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
