SOFTBALL: Wednesday's roundup

FORBES ROAD 4, HYNDMAN 3 >> Forbes Road scored a pair of runs in the first inning and two more in the third and made them stand up for a 4-3 non-league victory over Hyndman.

Hannah Purnell and Courtney Schoen were at the heart of the offense for the Cardinals (3-0), each putting up two hits and knocking in a run.

FR coach Beth Bryant said, "We played the best all-around game we've had this season. Hannah Purnell put down a beautiful bunt that scored two runs, and Haley (Lashinsky) threw a good game."

Lashinsky scattered seven hits, struck out five and got the Hornets out after they had scored two runs in the top of the seventh.

CENTRAL YORK 15, WAYNESBORO 3 >> Central York tallied 11 runs in the first three innings and handed Waynesboro a 15-3 non-league loss in five innings.

The Panthers' Rachel Butler, in her first game on the mound, limited the Maidens (0-3) to just three hits. Waynesboro's Nicole Kreimer belted a double, had a single and stole a pair of bases.

Waynesboro coach Doug Stuart said, "We actually played a little better than we have in the first two games – we hit a little better and fielded a little better. But we ran into a completely dominant team. Their approach at the plate is very good and they should go a long way."
