P.O. Boys Soccer All-Stars

FIRST TEAM

MIKELL McGEE, Fannett-Metal, sr., for: The Tigers' opponents will be glad to see McGee graduate after he terrorized them with 109 goals (and 29 assists) over his career, including 48 this year ... He is the eighth area player to reach 100 goals and his total is the fourth-highest of all time, and a school record ... F-M coach Greg Best said, "He's just a natural goal scorer. He had a great 1-on-1 move to beat a defender and he was able to place the ball where he wanted it to go."

DEREK BUHRMAN, Waynesboro, so., for: Buhrman made a name for himself with his impassioned play, strong runs and hustle ... He scored 2 goals in limited time as a freshman, but this year he exploded for 19 goals and an assist even though he had to play plenty in the midfield to bolster the Indians' defense ... Waynesboro coach Brian Stum said, "Derek is a very coachable player. He's a good student who works hard outside of the season on his game." ... Buhrman also plays basketball and baseball.

BRANDON STUHLER, Greencastle-Antrim, jr., for: Stuhler scored 14 goals and added 9 assists to run his 3-year career totals to 32 goals and 15 assists ... Blue Devil coach Scott Gelsinger said, "He will simply out-work anybody. He has that ability to be in the right place and he will finish. The ball just seems to find him in front of the goal." ... A repeat P.O. selection, Stuhler also garnered Mid Penn Colonial Division first-team honors.

RENE QUINTANILLA, Chambersburg, sr., mid: "Rene was crucial to the team; without him I don't know where we would have been," Trojan coach Corey Grove said ... Quintanilla scored 8 goals and added 4 assists ... He was a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division first team choice ... Grove said, "I could ask him to do anything and he'd do it, and he was a leader with his play. The game against Cedar Cliff we were struggling at home, but he scored a hat trick to pull it out for us."

JOSH KLINE, Greencastle-Antrim, jr., mid: Kline's foot skills are what set his game apart ... G-A coach Scott Gelsinger said, "He has a great ability to trap the ball and then quickly get a pass off. He makes things happen with his skills and he finds the right person with his pass. He moved into the middle from outside mid and contributed a lot." ... Kline was also named to the Mid Penn Colonial Division first team ... He scored 4 goals and had 6 assists.

NIC CULLER, McConnellsburg, sr., mid: Culler had started for 3 years on defense, but was moved up and produced 12 goals and 5 assists ... Spartan coach Cory Houck said, "It was a difficult decision to pull Nic out of the back, but he knew it was best for the team and he excelled at it. He generated scoring opportunities because his great vision created space for others. He's going to very difficult to replace next season because his soccer knowledge is impressive."

ALEC TRUETT, James Buchanan, so., for: Truett had a breakout season for the Rockets, scoring 13 goals and adding a pair of assists, up from his totals of 4 and 1 in his first year ... Truett was also picked for the Mid Penn Colonial Division first team ... JB coach Randy Jarrett said, "He's got a natural talent that we were able to take advantage of last year and we're starting to hone his skills more. He has tremendous speed and a nose for the goal. He'll be a player to keep an eye on."

CHASE VARNER, Southern Fulton, sr., for: Varner had quite a senior season - he led the Indians to their first-ever District 5 playoff berth, scored 23 goals and had 16 assists, and finished as the school's all-time leader in both categories ... Scott Varner, SF's coach and Chase's father, said, "He is a great ball handler and his shots are extremely accurate. He can score from anywhere on the field. When he was marked up by the defense, he found ways to assist his teammates."

RYLEY REED, Chambersburg, sr., def: Reed, playing center back, was the emotional leader for Chambersburg ... Coach Corey Grove said, "He was our vocal leader on the field. Some games you just don't have it, but Ryley always brought the energy to get the guys going. It's interesting; he didn't make the middle school team, but he kept working and turned into a great player." ... Reed connected for 3 goals this season.

JONAH STAINS, Shalom Christian, sr., for: Stains racked up 19 goals and 7 assists in his final year to give him career totals of 70 goals and 29 assists ... "He has a very hard shot and had a lot of nice goals and assists," Flames coach Chris Lehman said. "He was one of our figureheads in creating chances, and especially in overtime of the (MDCC) championship game, he came through for us." ... Stains scored the game-winner on the last kick of his high school career.
