GOLF: Chambersburg keeps rolling with Mid Penn win

FAYETTEVILLE >> Chambersburg cruised to another dominating win In a Mid Penn Colonial Division golf match Wednesday at Penn National Founders Course, but it was a different guy at the top of the leaderboard.

Ian Patterson had the best round of the day for the Trojans (10-0), who extended their winning streak to 148. He fought through a 45-minute storm delay to shoot a one-over par 73. James Buchanan's Jacob Suder also shot a 73 to tie for first.

"Ian had a great round today," Chambersburg coach Mark Yost said. "He putted the ball well, struck the ball well and just put together a great round.

"Dave Beegle and the Penn National staff were great. Thanks to them, we were able to get back out on the course and finish the round. They could have called it after the rain."

Jordan Shaffer finished right behind Patterson, shooting a 74 for Chambersburg, and Karsen Rush and Tom Shearer both shot 75s. Evan Vink rounded out the scoring for the Trojans with a 76, giving them a total of 297, which beat second-place Waynesboro by 46 strokes.

"We had a lot of guys play well today," Yost said. "Evan Vink played well, and Shearer had a nice bounce-back day. Mary Kate Norcross also had a good round for us with a 90."

Waynesboro (8-2) used a 77 from Nick Franki (seventh) and an 84 from Olivia Gardenhour (ninth) to score a 343, seven strokes better than Greencastle (6-4). Erika Cauffman finished tied for 11th with an 86.

Chad Harbaugh had the best round for Greencastle, finishing with an 86, and John Williams, Ethan Clever and Kurt Kline all shot 88s.

G-A coach Jeremy Eby said, "We didn't have any great rounds. We just have to keep working at it and cut away some of the little strokes we're adding on. Our freshman girl Amanda Steier played very well with an 88. She had a 44 on both nines."

Suder was the lone James Buchanan golfer to finish under 90, helping the Rockets (1-9) edge Shippensburg with a score of 369. The Greyhounds (1-9) were led by Dillon LaBonte, who shot a 90.

"Jacob had a really good round," JB coach Mark Wise said. "He kept everything in front and took advantage of the course with three birdies and just four bogeys. On the par 3 13th, he landed the ball within one foot from about 143 yards out.

"The Penn National staff was great to us today. After an hour delay, they let us get back out there and finish. That was really big for the kids, and the staff was great and transporting the kids out of the rain and getting them back on."
