GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Monday's roundup, Chambersburg survives 5-set scare at Cedar Cliff

HIGHLAND PARK >> The Chambersburg girls volleyball team got into a big-time battle Monday night.

Playing on the road at middle-of-the-division Cedar Cliff on the Colts' Senior night, the Trojans had to rally from a 2-1 deficit to pull out a 3-2 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory.

"They played really well and made us work," Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. "They really played to win and we were on the defensive. They are a pretty good team and have done well against some other good teams, and if you don't play well they can get you."

The Trojans (11-3, 10-3 MPC) jumped ahead with a 25-18 win in Set 1, but the Colts (7-8, 6-7 MPC) rattled off close wins in the next two sets, 26-24 and 25-23. Then Chambersburg pulled even with a 25-21 victory, and earned the win by taking the fifth set 15-11.

"I have to give our girls credit – they came back from a tough game three loss and played really well in the last two games," Frelin said.

Serving played a big role for the Trojans. Jenna Lombardozzi (14 points, 5 aces), Danessa Martin (13, 3) and Lauren Ching (12, 2) put the pressure on Cedar Cliff.

Frelin said, "Our serving was crucial. Jenna, Danessa and Lauren kept them out of their system at critical times."

Caitlin Vrabel led Chambersburg with 16 kills and four block kills, and Cara Long added 13 kills. Ching helped out with 46 assists, while Martin was all over the court on defense with 26 digs.
