MERCERSBURG >> After winning the first two sets Tuesday night, James Buchanan's girls volleyball team looked like it was on a roll against Big Spring.

But then some inconsistencies caused the Rockets to drop the next two sets, but JB pulled out a 15-9 victory in the third set to claim a 3-2 Mid Penn Colonial Division win.

"We started out really strong," JB coach Tonya Miller said. "Then in our third and fourth games, we just kind of lost our rhythm. Luckily, it came back, and we led the whole way through the fifth set."

The Rockets (4-6, 4-5 MPC) pulled out a narrow 25-22 win to start the match, then rolled to a 25-18 win in the Set 2. But the Bulldogs answered and held JB to 19 and 18 points in the next two sets, respectively.

"In the first two sets, we were mixing it up more and seeing the open spots," Miller said. "In the third and fourth, we were just fighting to get a bump, set and hit. Little things were falling through, and we were swinging to swing rather than trying to get the point."

James Buchanan got a strong defensive game, led by Erica Eberly with 12 digs. Tyana Quivers and Kayla Cummings had 10 apiece.

Offensively, Quivers had 16 kills and four blocks, and Eberly recorded 13 kills.
