GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Monday's roundup

GREENCASTLE 3, BOONSBORO, MD. 2 >> Greencastle-Antrim came out on the winning side of a seesaw affair against Boonsboro, Md. in a non-league match Monday night.

The Blue Devils (6-3) got a stellar effort from Keri Gearhart, who produced 18 kills and a pair of blocks. The defense was led by Gabby Baughman, who finished with 19 digs, and Elizabeth Dagliano, who had 12.

Greencastle went down in the set count twice before forcing a decisive fifth set, which it won handily, 15-7.

The Maidens (8-0) held the Colonials to 16 points or fewer in all three sets they won, but lost the third set, 27-25.

Brycelin Spidel had a fine effort up front for Waynesboro. She finished with 11 kills and 10 blocks. Ciara Rosenberger led the attack with 17 kills, while Olivia Fogelsonger and Rachel Johnson smacked 10 each.

Alyssa Taylor led the well-rounded defense with 22 digs, while Jenna Harne, Grace Powell and Kaylie Yarnell each dug nine balls.

Shaye Smartt had a well-rounded game for the Indians (2-3). She finished with 10 kills and seven digs. Morgan Fitz led the defense with 15 digs, and Drew Gordon had a strong night from the service line. She racked up 13 points on five aces.
