GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Thursday's roundup, James Buchanan can't maintain good start vs. Boiling Springs

BOILING SPRINGS >> James Buchanan's girls volleyball team opened with a convincing opening-set victory, but it couldn't sustain the pace in a 3-1 Mid Penn Capital Division loss to Boiling Springs.

The Rockets (2-5, 2-4 MPC) jumped ahead with a 25-14 win in the first set, but it was all downhill from there. The Bubblers took the second set 25-22 and followed with a 25-18 victory in the third. They then closed the match out with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.

"The first game we took control and made big plays," JB coach Tonya Miller said. "We never let them score more than two points in a row. But after that first game, we lost that control and had many errors after working hard in long volleys."

Tyana Quivers led James Buchanan with 11 kills and four blocks. Kayla Cummings had 19 assists, and Sarah Blair had seven digs.
