GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Monday's roundup, Chambersburg pins 3-0 defeat on Cedar Cliff

CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg girls volleyball coach Ty Frelin was pleased with how his team started its match against Cedar Cliff on Monday night at the CASHS Field House.

He was also happy with how they finished off a 3-0 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory over the Colts.

"We came out pretty focused at the start of the match," Frelin said. "We had a long week last week and I wasn't sure how we'd play tonight. But we played well. We got behind a little in the third set, but put things together to finish it out."

The Trojans (5-1, 4-1 MPC) won sets of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-18 over Cedar Cliff (2-3, 2-3 MPC).

Caitlin Vrabel and Lauren Diller each smacked 10 kills to lead Chambersburg, and Vrabel and Cara Long each had three blocks. Lauren Ching made 34 assists, and Danessa Martin dug up 16 balls.

In the serving department, Kailey Layman piled up 14 points, including two aces.

Frelin said, "Cedar Cliff can be solid – they took a set from Cumberland Valley – but our girls did a nice job of staying the course."

GETTYSBURG 3, GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM 2 >> Gettysburg pulled out a 15-8 win in the fifth set to hand Greencastle a 3-2 non-league defeat on Monday.

The Blue Devils (4-2) were playing without three starters (Jess Root, Madee Goodwin and Elizabeth Dagliano) for health reasons, but still battled the Warriors to the end.

Keri Gearhart led Greencastle with 13 kills and five blocks, while Chloe McKenzie handed out 33 assists. Gabby Baughman had 23 digs, Sierra Wagner 20 and Sydney Shepherd 19, while Rachel Verhoef had three aces.

The Blazers (3-6) managed just four points in the first set but scored 15 in each of the next two. Loryn Sanders finished with seven assists.
