GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Friday's roundup, Cumberland Valley Christian starts season with marathon victory

CHAMBERSBURG >> Cumberland Valley Christian kicked off its girls volleyball season with a marathon Mason-Dixon Christian Conference victory over Broadfording, 3-2.

After winning the first set by a 25-16 margin, the Blazers (1-1, 1-1 MDCC) had to fight back from a 2-1 deficit. They tied it up with a narrow victory in Set 4 and won the deciding set, 15-12.

"Our match against Broadfording was very intense; there was a lot of defense being played from both sides of the court," CVC coach Carole Rosenberry said. "We had some really great serving tonight from Brianna Miley, Ashley Winters and Mackenzie Householder, and our passing as good enough to be able to run an offense."

Miley and Winters each smacked five aces. Miley also paced the offense with 17 kills, and Hunter Timmons followed right behind with 12.

"It was definitely a game of who could keep the ball going the longest," Rosenberry said. "Both teams played and never gave up. We were just able to hold out longer. All the girls contributed to tonight's hard-fought win."
