H.S. SPORTS: Mercersburg Academy's weekend roundup

MERCERSBURG 420, SIDWELL FRIENDS 465 >> Mercersburg Academy remained undefeated by posted five scores in the mid-80s or below in a non-league victory over Sidwell Friends.

"This was a good tune-up for the state championship that will also be held at Chambersburg Country Club," Blue Storm coach Doug Smith said. "The boys got a good taste of what this course has to offer. Roland (Morris) continued a streak of good play and could have even been quite a bit lower."

Morris led the Blue Storm (7-0) for the third straight match by shooing an 80. Right behind him was Ross Brown, who fired an 82, and Ruichi Zhou carded an 85.

Solid scoring continued as Joseph Bucci posted an 86, and Mike DeNunzio finished with an 87.

Girls tennis

LAWRENCEVILLE 7, MERCERSBURG 0 >> After winning six straight matches, Mercersburg Academy was swept by Lawrenceville in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League matchup.

Allyson Chae put up the best fight for the Blue Storm (6-2, 2-1 MAPL). She lost her No. 4 singles match, 6-3, 7-5. At No. 3 singles, Emma Hicks fell, 6-4, 6-2.

Mercersburg also got a nice fight from Hicks and Eliza Smith, who lost at No. 2 doubles just 8-6.

"While there was competitive play in all of the matches, Lawrenceville was simply too powerful and consistent in the end," Blue Storm coach Michael Sweeney said.
