H.S. TRACK & FIELD: Public Opinion Girls All-Stars


TATIANA PURNELL, Mercersburg Academy, senior: Purnell had a splendid senior season, ending the year with a pair of meet records at the Pa. Independent Schools Athletic Association state championships ... She won the 100 in 15.19 and the 300 in 44.34 ... Purnell also crushed the Class AA meet record in the 300 at the Jack Roddick Invitational with a time of 44.65, which would have also beaten all but one competitor in the Class AAA field as well.

LILLY HARNISH, Waynesboro, senior: Despite battling injuries in the beginning of the season, Harnish had a fine end to her high school career ... She finished the year with a fourth-place medal in the high jump at the PIAA Championships by clearing 5-6 ... Harnish also had quite a successful time at the District 3 Championships, where she earned gold in the high jump (5-6) and silver in the triple jump (38-1).

CELINA MERCHANT, Southern Fulton, junior: Merchant was a big contributor for the Indians this season, and she capped it all off with a pair of gold medals at the District 5 Championships ... In the 300 hurdles, she clocked in at 49.11, her first sub-50 time of the season ... Despite being seeded fifth in the long jump, she defended her district title with a jump of 16-2.5.

SAMMI LOWERY, Chambersburg, senior: Lowery broke her own school record in the outdoor pole vault at the District 3 Championships, where she cleared 11-6 and captured a spot on the podium with an eighth-place medal ... She then cleared the height again to take 10th overall at the PIAA Championships ... Lowery holds the Trojan record in the event both indoors and outdoors.

MCKENZIE GELVIN, McConnellsburg, sophomore: Gelvin had a breakout season for the Spartans this year ... She broke a longtime school record when she finished the 800 in 2:24.08 to place second at the West Central Coaches Invitational in Altoona ... At the District 5 Championships, Gelvin had a dominating race, winning the event in 2:24.41, more than eight seconds faster than anyone else ... She also captured silver in the 100 at districts.

ABBY YOURKAVITCH, Chambersburg, freshman: After a fine freshman cross country season, expectations were soaring for Yourkavitch, and she didn't disappoint ... Yourkavitch started the season with a pair of gold medals at the Tim Cook Invite, winning the 3,200 and the 4x800 ... She then placed fourth in the District 3 Championships with a time of 10:59.48 in the 3,200, and she was 16th at the PIAA Championships.

ISIUWA OGHAGBON, Mercersburg Academy, sophomore: Oghagbon earned a slew of medals at the Pa. Independent Schools Athletic Association state meet ... She won the gold medal in the shot put with a throw of 38-6.25, which was more than four feet farther than anyone else ... Oghagbon then captured silver in both the javelin (90-11) and the discus (96-8).

KAYLEE MOWERY, Chambersburg, freshman: Mowery surprised some people in her debut season with the Trojans ... After being a consistent point-scorer throughout the season, she had a 20-second best in the 3,200 at the District 3 Championships to secure a spot in states ... At districts, she finished the event in 11:01.59, which was good enough for sixth and satisfied the state-qualifying standard.

Erica Helm: Greencastle-Antrim, senior, jumps.

Jenna Carbaugh: James Buchanan, senior, jumps.

Jenay Faulkner: Greencastle-Antrim, sophomore, throws.

Miana Harrison: Chambersburg, senior, sprints.

Cirsten Kelly: Chambersburg, junior, sprints.

Kristina Donato: Waynesboro, senior, jumps.
