McConnellsburg's Bronwyne Mellott ousted in PIAA tennis

Bronwyne Mellott's fourth attempt at winning a PIAA girls tennis singles title ended in the first round of the state tournament on Friday morning.

Playing at Hershey Racquet Club, the McConnellsburg senior was upended by Brenna Magliochetti, a sophomore from Bethlehem Catholic.

Mellott captured the first set with relative ease, 6-1, but Magliochetti battled in the second set and pulled it out 7-5. She carried that momentum into the third set, which she won 6-1.

A year ago, Mellott also fell in her first-round match. In her freshman and sophomore seasons, she advanced to the championship match before being defeated.

She finished her career with four District 5 tiltles, plus a 6-4 record in the PIAA Tournament.
