H.S. Highlights: JB girls tennis tied for 1st

James Buchanan's girls tennis team is taking no prisoners.

For the fourth match in a row, the Rockets picked up a win, and this one put them in a tie for first place in the Mid Penn Colonial Division. JB beat Bishop McDevitt, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon.

Rachel Martin and Meridyth Sanders both came out on the winning sides of a pair of battles. After dropping the first set at No. 1 singles, Martin stormed back for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory, while Sanders eked out a first-set win in a tiebreaker before winning 6-2.

The decisive point for the Rockets (4-1, 2-1 MPC) came at No. 2 doubles, where Leah Wingert and Amber Clark won, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).

Red Land 5, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans came close to picking up their first point of the season, but fell short to Red Land in Mid Penn Commonwealth Division action. Hope Sprecher was the biggest threat for Chambersburg (0-3, 0-3 MPC). She won her first set at No. 3 singles, 6-3, before falling. At No. 2 doubles, Aubrey Carlin and Caroline Hance lost 7-6, 5-7, 10-3.

BOYS SOCCER

Grace 2, Cumb. Valley Christian 0: Eli Black collected 17 saves, but it wasn't enough for CV Christian to overcome Grace in Mason-Dixon Christian Conference. The Blazers (1-1, 1-1 MDCC) finished with 18 shots on goal.

Shalom Christian 5, Heritage 0: Shalom claimed a decisive MDCC victory over Heritage thanks to Jonah Stains and Chase Martin racking up multiple goals. Stains had two goals and an assist, while Martin scored a hat trick. Jacob Nicholas had two helpers. Shalom (3-0, 3-0 MDCC) out shot Heritage 28-6.

"I like how our possession started with our defenders, who did a great job of winning the ball and building play from there," Shalom coach Chris Lehman said. "We've had several games over the last few days, so I was proud of how hard everyone worked despite the heat and being tired."

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Grace 3, Cumb. Valley Christian 0: The match started well for CV Christian, which lost the first set just 25-19, but Grace Academy got better and better in MDCC action. Brianna Miley finished with four kills, 13 digs and five aces.
