GIRLS TENNIS: Saturday's roundup
ENOLA >> Saturday was an unkind day for the James Buchanan girls tennis team at the Mid Penn Conference Class AA tournament.
At No. 1 singles, JB's Rachel Martin was defeated in the final by Katherine Long of Trinity, 6-4, 6-1.
Rocket coach Terri Beegle said, "They went to deuce a lot, and Long cranked it up to win the points. Rachel played well and made her pick it up, but Long played better."
Martin has already qualified for the District 3 Tournament, the first JB player since Kim Hoffman in 1983-84 to do so.
The No. 2 doubles team of Rachel Poffenberger and Violet Clark won the second set of their suspended match, but dropped the third set, 6-2.
Martin and Meredyth Sanders were knocked out in the first round of the district doubles competition.
