GIRLS TENNIS: Friday's roundup

TRINITY 4, JAMES BUCHANAN 1 >> James Buchanan's girls tennis won at least one game in every set on Friday, but it wasn't enough against powerful Trinity.

Rachel Martin scored a big upset for the Rockets (2-5, 2-4 MPC) at No. 1 singles, beating Katherine Long 6-4, 6-0.

"Rachel was the wall today," JB coach Terri Beegle said. "She played a very smart match and was spot on. We've been working with her on setting up her points, and she did it well today. Her opponent was very frustrated."

At No. 2 singles, Meredyth Sanders jumped out to a 6-1 win in the first set, but Amanda Becker came back with 6-2, 6-4 victories in the final two to grab the win.

Beegle said, "I'm just very proud of our team. These girls play with so much integrity and heart. They just put it all out there."
