GIRLS TENNIS: Thursday's roundup
PALMYRA 5, CHAMBERSBURG 0 >> Chambersburg continued to battle on Thursday, but it wasn't enough in a non-league girls tennis loss to Palmyra.
The Trojans (0-2) were unable to win a set throughout the match. Paige Sideras played tough at No. 3 singles, but ultimately fell 6-2, 6-4.
"The effort is there but the experience is lacking," Chambersburg coach Bill Wissinger said. "They are giving 100 percent and want to win so bad."
At No. 1 doubles, Emma Guare and Sydney Fischer fell 6-3, 6-4 in a hard-fought battle. Maddison Mellinger got her first varsity action at No. 2 doubles.

The Rockets (0-2, 0-2 MPC) got wins from Maggie Strawoet and Autumn Schweizer at No. 1 doubles, needing a tiebreaker in each set. The duo went on for a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) victory. The No. 2 doubles team, Rachel Poffenberger and Violet Clark, had a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
"I think we let this one slip away," JB coach Terri Beegle said. "I think we could have won this, but there were a lot of good matches. The kids played well, but they also made some unforced errors."
Rachel Martin played a strong match at No. 1 singles, but fell 6-3, 6-4, and Meredith Sanders nearly forced a third set at No. 2 singles, falling 6-1, 7-5.
"It's still early in the season, and we're getting better. But we have to get better faster," Beegle said.
