P.O. Girls Soccer All-Stars

FIRST TEAM

ALLY RUDY, Greencastle-Antrim, sr., mid: A two-time P.O. Player of the Year, Rudy had another successful season, totaling 19 goals and 6 assists, giving her a career total of 81 goals and 26 assists ... "Ally drew so much attention from other team's defenders that she, by proxy, created so many chances for others," G-A coach Greg Cole said. "She demands respect from those she plays against, and is absolutely, without question, always playing her hardest." ... Messiah and Lynchburg are 2 schools Rudy is considering.

ALEXIS MELLOTT, McConnellsburg, sr., for: Mellott led the area in goals (24) and points (52) ... McConnellsburg coach Toby McGarvey said, "Coming into the season, we knew we needed help with scoring goals, and Lex did a very good job at that. She did well finishing, even when we played her in the midfield at times. She showed more patience this year -- when she got the ball in the box, she was more selective with her shooting." ... Mellott was a Sideling Hill League all-star.

MONICA BECK, Waynesboro, sr., def: Beck was a first-team pick a year ago as a forward and midfielder; this time she made it as a defender ... She still managed to score 7 goals and add 6 assists ... "She played striker last year and center back this year because we needed her, and she was really good for us there," Maiden coach Brian Fisher said. "She is very skilled, hard-working and unselfish." ... An MPC Colonial first team choice, Beck is considering Lynchburg College.

MEGHAN HIRNEISEN, Greencastle-Antrim, sr., def: Hirneisen was the Blue Devil defender who disrupted many an offensive attack from their foes, covering a lot of ground to break up plays ... G-A coach Greg Cole said, "Meghan was a very smart player with her positioning. She directed and read the game very well, and she was absolutely fearless when she was on the field. She was a captain who seemed to do everything for us." ... Hirneisen added 3 assists and was an MPC Colonial first team selection.

SYDNEY BENEDICK, James Buchanan, jr., mid/for: Benedick was the instigator of the Rockets' offense from the midfield and forward positions, scoring 11 times and setting up 9 other goals ... JB coach Terry Appleby said, "Syd was our field general. She knew what we wanted to accomplish each game and she orchestrated it for us. She's not big, but she's strong, and she understands the game." ... Benedick was a Mid Penn Colonial first team selection.

ISABELLA WEIGEL, Chambersburg, sr., for: Weigel moved up to striker permanently and became Chambersburg's go-to scorer, knocking in 11 goals and adding one assist ... Trojan coach Eric Guyer said, "This was really her first chance to play forward and I think she was more comfortable there -- she did really well playing with her back to the goal. She's powerful in the air and she had a very strong shot." ... Weigel was a second-team pick in the Mid Penn Commonwealth.

ALYSSA DENKOVICH, Greencastle-Antrim, sr., def: As a center back, Denkovich did not score a goal, but she was a key player in the Greencastle offense because of her prowess on free kicks ... "She was just great on set pieces," Blue Devil coach Greg Cole said. "Seriously, she could hit a 40-yard shot into a trash can -- she did that a lot at practice. She has an innate ability to put the ball in just the right spot." ... Denkovich, a Mid Penn Colonial first-team pick, had 10 assists.

MICHAELA KENDALL, McConnellsburg, jr., mid/def: With a total of 14, Kendall was credited with more assists than any other area player, and she added 4 goals ... She was a Sideling Hill League all-star pick ... Spartan coach Toby McGarvey said, "She has a lot of intensity and tenacity -- you almost have to pull her back some. She could play all 11 positions. We played her in central midfield, but sometimes in the back and at striker. When she steps on the field, she's out there to win."

TAYLOR GORMAN, James Buchanan, jr., def: The anchor of James Buchanan's defense at center back, Gorman stood tall against the opponents' attacks ... She also helped on offense with two goals ... Rocket coach Terry Appleby said, "We would sometimes bring her up on our corner kicks and use her as a decoy, and we got some goals because of that. She's able to get things done because she's a good athlete, and a nice ball striker." ... Gorman was an MPC Colonial second team choice.

MICHAELA SHOVER, Waynesboro, sr., def: A purely defensive-minded player, Shover shared the center back area with Monica Beck ... She was credited with an assist ... Shover was a Mid Penn Colonial first team selection ... "Nobody is as hard-working as Michaela," Waynesboro coach Brian Fisher said. "She's just an awesome kid and very coachable. She's not a vocal player, but she always had a positive attitude and was very competitive."
