District 5-A Girls' soccer: McConnellsburg falls to Conemaugh Township in quarterfinals, 3-0

DAVIDSVILLE >> McConnellsburg's girls soccer season ended in disappointment on Saturday evening when the Lady Spartans lost to Conemaugh Township in the District 5 Class A quarterfinals.

The Indians scored a goal in the opening minute of play and went on to claim a 3-0 victory.

"They scored quick, and that seems like it was our M.O. this year," McConnellsburg coach Toby McGarvey said. "A lot of teams scored quick on us, but then we settled down. I thought it was evenly played for the majority of the game. We did have a couple nice chances to tie the game in the second half, but things just didn't seem to be going our way."

Molly Massimo scored a pair of late goals to secure the victory for Conemaugh Township.

The Spartans (9-10) managed eight shots on goal, but had only two corner kicks. Sophomore keeper Kellyn Perry finished with seven saves.

"We had sort of an up and down season, so it was nice for the girls to get back to districts," McGarvey said. "Our girls played hard in each and every game. We had some injuries throughout the season and were low on numbers, so I'm proud that the girls stuck with it."
