GIRLS SOCCER: Tuesday's roundup, Chambersburg has first-half flurry in 7-2 defeat of Mifflin County

LEWISTOWN >> Chambersburg's girls soccer team poured in six goals in the first half and went on to claim a 7-2 victory over Mifflin County in Mid Penn Commonwealth Division action Tuesday afternoon.

This is the first time this year that the Trojans (7-7-1, 6-5 MPC) have won two games in a row.

"This was a nice road win for us and gives us momentum moving forward into the game with Cedar Cliff on Thursday," Chambersburg coach Eric Guyer said. "Our normal subs were able to get some good minutes and allowed us to rest some starters in the second half."

Cirsten Kelly and Isabella Weigel both scored twice for the Trojans, while Claire Jacobs had a goal and two assists. Ashlynn Swanger and Emily Mort added tallies for the Trojans, and Cari Pasierb and Gabriella Lecuona had assists.

Chambersburg racked up 34 shots, compared to just six for Mifflin County.

Trojan goalkeeper Megan Cottingham had three saves.

"We played a good game, just couldn't get the ball into the back of the net as much as we had wanted to," Ship coach Mary Miller said. "We held possession most of the game, but allowed a goal off a corner kick."

Jenny Lemay had the other goal for the Lady Hounds (4-10, 2-6 MPC). The victory broke a five-game losing skid for Shippensburg.

"This was a good game played by both teams," Spartan coach Toby McGarvey said. "We were disappointed to lose it right at the beginning of overtime there. I thought we had the momentum most of the second half."

Rockwood scored all three of its goals in a span of less than 10 minutes in the first half, but the Spartans (5-7) tied it up midway through the second half on an Alexis Mellott goal.

"We came out strong and had a lot of opportunities early on," McGarvey said. "We gotta do a better job of finishing in front of the net. Had we put the ball in the back of the net early, we would've been in a better position."

Mellott finished with a pair of goals, and Morgan Kendall had her first tally of the season. Kellyn Perry recorded 13 saves.
