GIRLS SOCCER: Saturday's roundup, Chambersburg holds on for 1-0 win over Carlisle

CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg turned a late first-half goal by Claire Jacobs into a 1-0 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory over Carlisle, despite the team playing its third game in three days.

The victory Saturday night at rainy Trojan Stadium lifts the Trojans' record to 6-7-1 (5-5 MPC). It was Chambersburg's second 1-0 victory over the Herd (4-9, 3-7 MPC) this season.

"It's been a long, rainy week – with some tough results the last two days – so it was really nice for the girls to get a win," Trojan coach Eric Guyer.

The goal came with just under five minutes left in the first half. Gabriella Lecuona crossed the ball into the box and Jacobs headed it into the net.

Guyer said, "Gabby and Claire just missed on a corner kick a few minutes earlier. On the score, Gabby curled a ball in and Claire made a perfect low header inside the post."

Megan Cottingham had to make only two saves to preserve the shutout, as the Trojans out-shot Carlisle, 12-5.

"Kendyl Grant and the entire defense worked hard to keep the shutout," Guyer said.
