GIRLS SOCCER: Thursday's roundup

GREENCASTLE >> The first time Greencastle-Antrim's girls soccer team faced off against Shippensburg, it cruised to a 9-1 victory.

But in a Mid Penn Colonial Division rematch on Thursday, things weren't as easy for the Blue Devils, who ultimately came away with a 2-0 win.

"Coach (Mary) Miller has done some great things with that ball club," Greencastle coach Greg Cole said. "They played us well."

The Blue Devils (8-3-1, 5-3 MPC) opened up the scoring in the 20th minute, when Hannah Beeler found Madison Sherrill to make it 1-0. Then 15 minutes into the second half, Ally Rudy scored to push the lead to two. Greencastle out-shot Ship (3-10, 1-6 MPC), 12--5.

Miller said, "We played back and forth with them today. We may not have had as many shots, but we worked the ball down on their end and worked hard to win the ball and create opportunities. This was a major improvement over our first meeting."

Greencastle held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks, and Lady Hound keeper Hannah Pletcher made five saves in goal. Jenay Faulkner posted a shutout for G-A on just three saves.
