COLONIAL PARK >> It was a rough afternoon for the Chambersburg girls soccer team Tuesday.

The Trojans fell behind early to Central Dauphin and never recovered, absorbing an 8-1 defeat to the Rams in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division game, giving CD some revenge for a 2-1 loss earlier this season to the Trojans.

Chambersburg coach Eric Guyer said, "We took the field without focus and intensity, and promptly spotted CD a three-goal cushion, and we had consistent miscues at bad locations on the field throughout the game. CD has a nice team, but they are not seven goals better than us."

Central Dauphin (5-6, 3-5 MPC) got goals by Lauren Currey, Cami Karnash and Haley Luckenbill in the first 12 minutes. Luckenbill and Lauren Resnick each finished with two goals.

The Trojans (5-5-1, 4-4 MPC) scored their only goal with 4:28 left when Gabriella Lecuona netted a shot.

"We've had to shuffle positions around due to some injuries and it's created some confusion," Guyer said. "There is little room for error against these teams, so for us to remain competitive in this division is it paramount that we give our very best effort every game."

WAYNESBORO 2, SHIPPENSBURG 1 >> It was a hard-fought battle for both teams in a Mid Penn Colonial Division matchup, but Waynesboro netted a pair of goals to capture the win from Shippensburg.

"What a game on both ends," Ship coach Mary Miller said. "The weather was a little crazy; I'm pretty sure there was a monsoon on the field with the rain that was coming down. Both teams had some woes with the weather with the ball moving a little quicker on the slick surface."

The Lady Hounds (3-9, 1-5 MPC) started the scoring when Natalie Nye redirected a deflection, but less than two minutes later, Waynesboro (9-2-1, 6-0-1 MPC) had tied it up on a goal by Morgan French.

Just a few minutes into the second half, Skylar Lambert scored the game-winning goal for the Maidens, which had beaten the Hounds 7-1 earlier this season.

"From the first time we played them until now, I feel like as a team, we have improved and are playing some good soccer," Miller said. "All we can do is keep pushing forward and working hard."

MCCONNELLSBURG 4, MEYERSDALE 3 >> McConnellsburg nearly let a 3-0 lead slip away, but kept it together enough to pick up a non-league victory over Meyersdale.

"Considering the rainy conditions and a muddy field, we played a good game," Spartans coach Toby McGarvey said. "We moved the ball well and had a lot of nice touches. The girls up front – Alexis Mellott, Hannah McGarvey and Michaela Kendall – had their best game so far. They kept their goalkeeper busy and had some quality goals."

Mellott, McGarvey and Madison Koontz scored in the first half, with McGarvey assisting on two of the goals and Kendall one. Mellott also scored an unassisted tally with 12 minutes left that put McConnellsburg (4-6) ahead 4-2 after nearly losing a 3-0 halftime edge.

"We fell into a defensive mode for a while and had a few miskicks that help lead to their goals," Toby McGarvey said.
