GIRLS SOCCER: Tuesday's roundup, Chambersburg can't hold lead in loss to State College

STATE COLLEGE >> Chambersburg's girls soccer team jumped all over State College on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the Trojans couldn't hold the lead, and the Little Lions stormed back to pull out a 3-2 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory.

"The girls are obviously disappointed with the outcome, because they really wanted this," Trojan coach Eric Guyer said. "They've been in every game and given their best effort. I'm extremely proud of this team."

Chambersburg (4-3-1, 3-2 MPC) got off to a hot start when Claire Jacobs found Isabella Weigel in the eighth minute for the opening goal. Four minutes later, Weigel hit a shot off the crossbar, and Haley Frey was there for a rebound to make it 2-0.

But two minutes before halftime, Haley Crawford cut the deficit in half with a goal for State College, and the Little Lions scored two more times in the second half to pull out the win.

"Getting those two goals early was huge for us," Guyer said. "Haley Crawford is faster with the ball than any our girls, and the defense did a great job of tracking her for most of the first half. That goal before half gave State College the momentum and they just came out and wore us down in the second half."

State College out-shot the Trojans 15-12 and had a 3-1 edge in corners. Megan Cottingham made seven saves for Chambersburg.
