GIRLS HOOPS: Thursday's roundup

McConnellsburg 58, Chestnut Ridge 24: It took a little while for McConnellsburg's girls basketball team to settle into its Sideling Hill League game Thursday night, but once it did, it captured an easy victory over Chestnut Ridge.

"We got off to a rough start in the first, but woke up in the second quarter and started to gel," Spartan coach Brent Seville said. "Now we can rest and wait to see who our opponent will be next Friday (in the playoffs)."

McConnellsburg finishes the regular season with a 15-7 (11-5 SHL) record, and was fighting for a top-four spot in the postseason in order to guarantee a first-round game at home.

The Spartan defense got better and better as the game went on, and held Ridge scoreless in the final quarter.

Bronwyne Mellott once again led the offense with 25 points and eight rebounds. Bridgette Ritchey stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, 12 rebounds and six steals, and Justice Seville also contributed 11 points.
