GIRLS: Monday, Shalom, 'Boro move on in holiday tourneys


Waynesboro 53, Steel-High 38 >> Waynesboro was led to victory over Steel-High in the first round of the Biglerville Holiday Tournament by three double-figure scorers.

Olivia Gardenhour led the Maidens with 17 points, followed by Cat Weber and Chelsea Cover, who scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, accounting for 77 percent of Waynesboro’s offense.

The Maidens (3-6) limited Steel-High to seven points in the second and fourth frame, leading the Steamrollers the entire way.

New Oxford 40, Shippensburg 37 >> Shippensburg let a narrow one slip away in a non-league game against New Oxford.

Despite keeping it close throughout the game, the Lady Hounds were outscored 14-10 in the third quarter, digging a shallow hole that they could not overcome, eventually losing the game 40-37.

Kayleen Sydnor and Mariah Martin led the Lady Hounds (3-6) with nine points each, followed by Shannon Staver, who scored eight.

Shalom Christian 56, Dayspring Christian 23 >> Shalom Christian had a nice start to the Crusader Christmas Classic Tournament with a comfortable win over Dayspring in the first round.

The Flames (6-1) kept Dayspring off the board the entire first quarter, and limited them to just eight points in the half to give themselves a 28-point advantage at the break, and didn’t stop there. Shalom duplicated its first half, adding another 28 points to the board for the dominant win.

Shalom had eight different points scorers in the win, led by Lydia Harris with 13 points, followed closely by Brooke Emge who scored 12.

The Flames finished the night hitting 8 of 9 from the free throw line, while Dayspring only scored once on 12 attempts from the line.
