GIRLS HOOPS: Wednesday's roundup

MOUNT UNION - Forbes Road got off to a rocky start, but recovered and went on to hand Mount Union a 46-21 non-league girls basketball defeat on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cardinals (2-4) fell behind 9-4 at the end of the first quarter, but battled back to take a 20-17 lead by halftime. Forbes Road then outscored the Trojans 26-4 in the second half.

FR coach Jeff Gelvin said, "After the first four minutes we played pretty well. They came out in a junk defense and we had to adjust. But some of the other girls hit some shots and that made the difference."

Mina Wilt totaled a season-high 15 points and had seven rebounds and five steals for the Cardinals. McKenzie Gelvin scored 13 points and had five steals, and Mara Broadwater added seven boards.

"We put two in double figures and one more had eight points (Malea Truax), and that's what we need," Jeff Gelvin said. "We've been struggling and the kids needed a win before the break, and they worked hard to get it."
