GIRLS HOOPS: Tuesday's roundup

STATE COLLEGE - University of Connecticut recruit Kyla Irwin showed her stuff early in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division girls basketball game against Chambersburg on Tuesday night.

Irwin scored 10 points in the first quarter and 10 more in the second to lead the Little Lions to a 59-22 victory. Irwin finished with 30 points.

Trojan coach Barry Purvis said, “We couldn’t stop Irwin. She was a real matchup problem for us.”

State College (6-1, 4-1 MPC) led 15-2 after one quarter and 35-11 by halftime.

“We got off to a slow start, with only two points in the first quarter, and from then on it wasn’t going to happen,” Purvis said. “The girls did play hard in the second half, so that’s a positive.”

The Trojans (1-7, 0-5 MPC) got eight points from Shadai Joyner, which tied her career high, and Taylor Vrabel added six.
