GIRLS: Monday, Chambersburg falls just short

CHAMBERSBURG The Chambersburg Lady Trojans played a close girls basketball game against Dover, but didn’t have quite enough to put it away in a non-league contest Monday night.

The Trojans outscored Dover in two frames, limiting the Eagles to just eight points in the opening quarter. But Dover outscored them 21-7 in the second period to take the lead, and Chambersburg (1-6) could not eliminate the deficit in the final eight minutes.

"We just don't know how to finish the game," Trojan coach Barry Purvis said. "We had chances in the fourth but we couldn't get over the hump."

Chambersburg turned the ball over 19 times, and shot 39 percent from the paint.

Purvis said, "They're so used to not winning games, they make crucial mistakes at crucial times."

Lindsay Embly scored 12 of her 22 points in the third quarter alone for the Trojans. Taylor Vrabel had eight points and Madison Whitfield added seven.

Alaina Reaver led Dover (2-6) with 20 points, including five 3-pointers.
