GIRLS HOOPS: Friday, Greencastle's Colonial streak ended

BOILING SPRINGS - To say the Greencastle-Antrim vs. Boiling Springs girls basketball game was a physical game Friday night would be an understatement.

The Blue Devils (4-1, 2-1 MPC) were charged with 39 personal fouls, plus two technicals on coach Mike Rhine, and Boiling Springs was hit for 23 fouls. In total, the teams went to the line for 73 foul shots.

“It was frustrating,” Rhine said.

All five of G-A’s starters ended up fouling out and two substitutes ended up with four fouls each.

The defeat ended a streak of 26 consecutive Colonial Division wins for the Blue Devils.

The Bubblers (6-1, 3-0 MPC) broke out to a 22-8 lead after one quarter. The Blue Devils eventually fought back to get within four points twice in the fourth quarter. The last time, Greencastle had the ball and Jenay Faulkner was called for a charge on a drive to the hoop, sending her to the bench.

Rhine said, “They jumped out on us, and after that we played even with them, but we just couldn’t get out of the hole. They did a good job on us .. they are the better team right now.”

Faulkner finished with 28 points and nine rebounds. Hannah Crist scored 16 points and had five assists, and Ashley True brought down seven boards.

While G-A had only four girls score, Boiling Springs put eight in the scoring column.
