GIRLS HOOPS: Tuesday, CV blasts Chambersbug

NEW KINGSTOWN -- It was not an unexpected result Tuesday night when defending PIAA Class AAAA state championship Cumberland Valley hosted Chambersburg in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division.

The powerful Eagles scored a 53-14 victory, holding the Trojans to just two points each in the first two quarters.

“They are just so much better than us at every position,” Chambersburg coach Barry Purvis said. “We’re so far away from where we need to be; we don’t have enough horses to play with teams like this.”

Of course, the Eagles, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the state, do have plenty of horses - particularly all-state player Kelly Jekot, who dropped in 23 points, and sister Katie Jekot, who had 11.

Purvis said, “The girls played hard, but we just couldn’t score. We had too many turnovers (26) and didn’t shoot well (4-for-41, which is 9%). All we had was two foul shots in the first quarter and one basket in the second.”

Lindsay Embly scored four points for Chambersburg (1-2, 0-1 MPC), Taylor Vrabel had three points and six rebounds and Alexis Sherman also scored three points.
