Greencastle finishes on up note with 42-0 win over JB

The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils ended their 2016 season on a positive note Friday night, steamrolling the James Buchanan Rockets 42-0 thanks to impenetrable defense and a relentless run game.

The Blue Devils outgained the Rockets 296 yards to 22 on the ground while scoring six rushing touchdowns.

“I’m glad for our seniors; they’re a great group and I’m very happy for them,” Greencastle coach Chuck Tinninis said. “I thought they played well tonight and deserved the win and I hope that it sets the tone for next year for our underclassmen.”

Demetrius Burton led Greencastle (2-8, 2-5 MPC) with 106 rushing yards in addition to two touchdowns, but senior Tanner Bain had two long touchdowns runs that electrified the Blue Devil crowd. He finished with 74 yards on just three carries with TD runs of 41 and 29 yards.

“Bain plays hard and plays his heart out,” Tinninis said, “He’s been playing that way the whole season. I’m glad that he finally got to score some touchdowns.”

On the other side of the ball, the Blue Devils played lights out. The Greencastle defense held James Buchanan (0-10, 0-7 MPC) to only 69 total yards for the whole game while coming up with two takeaways.

Antwoine Carter came away with an interception and the defense also recovered a fumble.

James Buchanan struggled mightily to get any momentum going and when it eventually did, small mistakes hurt them greatly.

“I’m really disappointed in our execution tonight,” JB coach Andy Stoner said. “When we can’t score on offense it puts our defense in a bind and the defense ends up getting tired.”

The loss ends the Rockets' run in the Mid Penn Conference for football after their request to be released was granted earlier in the week. The loss was their 21th in a row and their release now allows them to schedule games against teams with similar situations.

“We’ve got the offseason to find some games since we have an open slate, but I told the guys that we’re back to work in January and we’ll start over from there,” Stoner said.
