F-F football capsules: What to expect in Week 9

Waynesboro at James Buchanan

Game data: Waynesboro Indians at James Buchanan Rockets ... Friday, 7 p.m. at Rocket Stadium ... Mid Penn Colonial Division game.

Teams: Waynesboro (5-3, 4-1 MPC) is riding a high right now, having won its last four games ... James Buchanan (0-8, 0-5 MPC) is still winless.

Notes: Although James Buchanan's offense has been a bit more prolific the last three weeks, the Rockets are going to have a hard time with Waynesboro.

The Indians are now in a three-way tie for first place in the division, and have not lost since falling to Shippensburg in Week 4. Since halftime of the Ship game, Waynesboro has allowed just 30 points. in each of the last two games, Waynesboro has been ahead 35-0 at halftime.

After suffering three straight shutouts, James Buchanan has scored at least once in its last three outings. But the Rockets are going to need a seriously strong defensive performance in order to slow Waynesboro. Last week, Owen Stoner and Caden Ficks each had three solo tackles, while Colby Bradshaw recorded a pair.

P.O. pick: Indians by 28.

West Perry at Shippensburg

Game data: West Perry Mustangs at Shippensburg Greyhounds ... Friday, 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium ... Mid Penn Colonial Division game.

Teams: West Perry (2-6, 2-3 MPC) recently broke a long losing streak and has won two games in a row ... Last week, Shippensburg (7-1, 4-1 MPC) suffered its first loss of the season in a one-point defeat by Northern York.

Notes: Although West Perry is riding a two-game winning streak, don't expect it to easily turn into three. Not only is Shippensburg one of the toughest teams in the division, it is also going to be hungry to avenge its first loss of the year.

After a lengthy losing streak was snapped against James Buchanan, the Mustangs kept the momentum going with a 38-35 win over Mifflin County. Led by receiver Cameron May and running back Terrance Quaker, the Mustangs boast a very well-balanced offense. On the season, West Perry has amassed 1,126 passing yards and 1,342 on the ground.

But Shippensburg's offense is no slouch. Easily the top passing threat in the division, the Greyhounds have also added a serious threat on the ground in Adam Houser, who has gained nearly 400 yards in the last two weeks. Ship quarterback Carter Van Scyoc (1,439 passing yards) and receiver Cody Gustafson (922 receiving yards) are also chasing down serious milestones, so there's a lot for the Greyhounds to play for.

P.O. pick: Shippensburg by 21.

Northern York at Greencastle-Antrim

Game data: Northern York Polar Bears at Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils ... Friday, 7 p.m. at Kaley Field ... Mid Penn Colonial Division game.

Teams: Last week, the Polar Bears (5-3, 3-2 MPC) knocked off the previously undefeated Shippensburg Greyhounds ... Greencastle (1-7, 1-4 MPC) has lost four straight.

Notes: Greencastle is looking to end the season well, and coach Chuck Tinninis said he thought his team would "match up better with Northern."

Northern has posted three victories in a row, and has continued to get a solid offensive effort on the ground. Kyle Swartz (115 carries, 510 yards), Curtis Robison (62-323) and Steven Yurchison (40-224) have been the biggest running threats. Robison has completed just 42 passes this year.

Greencastle-Antrim's offense, which is also run-heavy, has been stuck in the mud lately. The Blue Devils have been held to fewer than 240 yards in each of their last three games, and managed just 132 total yards of offense a week ago. Tanner Bain and Demetrius Burton led G-A with 29 yards apiece.
