Big Spring takes 59-14 win over James Buchanan

James Buchanan was able to put a couple of touchdowns on the board against Big Spring in a Mid Penn Colonial Division football game Friday night in Newville.

But the Bulldogs held the upper hand and sent the Rockets home with a 59-14 defeat.

JB (0-8, 0-5 MPC) trailed 7-0 when Owen Stoner hauled in a 79-yard scoring pass from Sebastian Wise in the first quarter to make it 7-6.

The Rockets fell behind 35-6 at halftime, but put the first points on the board in the second half. Cormac Houpt crossed the goal line from 4 yards out, and also ran in the two-point conversion, making it 35-14.

For Big Spring (6-2, 4-1 MPC), Ryan Adams scored twice on the ground and once on a pass from Jaret Petty, who added two rushing touchdowns and threw for three scores. Adams totaled 15 for 155 yards and Petty hit 11 of 20 passes for 171 yards.

James Buchanan got 51 yards on 17 carries from Houpt, while Stoner caught four passes for 119 yards. Wise completed 2 of 7 passes for 84 yards, and Colby Bradshaw was 3-for-7 for 40 yards.

For the Rocket defense, Sawyer Egolf made six tackles, Shane Beckman had five, Bradshaw 4.5 and Sean Bankson had four.

JB hosts Waynesboro next Friday.
