Central Dauphin dominates Chambersburg, 56-0

Chambersburg knew it would be a tough test, but maybe not this tough.

It was clear from the start that the Trojans (1-7) were overmatched against Central Dauphin (7-1). The Rams had their ground game working early and often and they routed the Trojans 56-0 in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division football game Friday night.

"I don't think we came out with a whole lot of emotion tonight," Trojan coach Mark Luther said. "We definitely didn't play like we did last week against Cedar Cliff."

On a cold and windy night, the Trojans had trouble getting first downs, and with the wind making it tough to punt, Central Dauphin repeatedly found itself starting drives in Chambersburg territory.

"It just made it really tough starting every drive from our 20 while they are at midfield," Luther said.

Once they had the ball, the Rams' offensive line went right to work and the Trojan defenders were overwhelmed. The Rams stuck to the ground game all night and rolled up 197 yards rushing.

"We have a great deal of respect for those guys on Chambersburg's defensive line," said Central Dauphin coach Glen McNamee. "I told them not to overlook them."

The Rams got the message - they scored on every drive in the first half.

"You just can't come out flat against a great team like that," Luther said.

Chambersburg showed some signs of life in the second half, and the defense battled back.

"Obviously, its tough to go into halftime down 42-0, but I just told the guys to come out with a different energy level and try to make some plays," Luther said.

The Trojans made a few in the third quarter, including a fumble recovery, and nearly got on the scoreboard. However, Luther decided to go for it on fourth-and-goal from the Ram 2, but the Trojans were stuffed.

"Once I take a look at the film I'll see where we can improve for next game," Luther said.

Next week the Trojans have another tough game when they host unbeaten State College.

"We're just gonna continue to work and see if we can come out with more energy," Luther said.

Clay Myers mustered 31 yards on eight carries for the Trojans, while Sean Vessah caught three passes from Tyler Collier for 44 yards.
