Greencastle earns 1st football victory of season
Quarterback Cade McDowell ran for two scores and passed for another to help Greencastle-Antrim earn its first football victory of the season.
The Blue Devils defeated West Perry 35-21 Friday night on the road in a Mid Penn Colonial Division football game.
The key play came late in the second quarter after the Mustangs (0-4, 0-1 MPC) had gotten to within 14-13 on a 29-yard pass from Dom Salinetro to Cameron May. Greencastle's Austin Kane then returned the kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown with 1:23 left and Ian Gelsinger, who was 5-for-5 on extra points, made it 21-13 at halftime.
McDowell ran the ball in from 4 yards out in the first quarter and Demetrius Burton made it 14-0 with a 45-yard scoring run early in the second.
In the fourth period, the Blue Devils (1-3, 1-0 MPC) sandwiched a West Perry touchdown with a 28-yard scoring run by McDowell and his 16-yard TD pass to Cade Marshall.
Burton picked up 155 yards on 18 carries to lead the offense. McDowell connected on 5 of 7 passes for 87 yards and no interceptions.
The score probably could have been worse, except that G-A fumbled the ball three times and the Mustangs recovered all three.
The Blue Devil defense held West Perry to 83 yards on the ground (2.8 yards per carry).
