From the opening play from scrimmage Friday night, Shippensburg looked like it was going to dominate its Mid Penn Colonial Division football game against Waynesboro.

The Greyhounds used some trickery to take the lead just 20 seconds into the game, but from there, the Indians scratched and clawed their way back into the game. They had the winning touchdown in their sights with less than a minute to go.

But when Waynesboro quarterback Brady Riddell chucked a ball up the middle of the field, Shippensburg's Dylan Jumper was all over it. He jumped in front of Cam Keck, and pulled down an interception that iced a 24-21 victory in favor of the Greyhounds.

"I had my next play ready to go, so it was just a shame that he threw a pick," Indians coach Steve Myers. "We had a lot of good spots - just too many mistakes early and didn't quite make enough plays. When you lose by three, they just made a couple more plays than we did."

Most of those plays came early, as the Greyhounds (4-0, 1-0 MPC) started the game with a score. On the first play of the game, it looked like Adam Houser would take an easy route up the middle after a reverse handoff. But the Greyhounds turned heads when Houser reversed it to Cody Gustafson, who threw to a wide-open Clayton Stine for a 65-yard touchdown.

The Hounds didn't let up and led 24-7 at halftime. Waynesboro (1-3, 0-1 MPC) looked like it was in trouble when Houser made an incredible interception to start the second half.

"I lost the ball in the lights, but once I saw it, I just swatted it," Shippensburg's Colby Holtry said. "Next thing I knew, it went the whole way up in the air, and Adam grabbed it out of nowhere."

But from there, the Indians found their feet. On the next drive, Shippensburg made a risky move by going for it on fourth-and-goal from the 21. Waynesboro's Forrest Rhyne made the Greyhounds pay when he picked off Carter Van Scyoc and took it to the house for an 81-yard touchdown.

"The interception was tough; Carter had a rougher night than he has had," Greyhound coach Eric Foust said. "They did a get a lot of pressure, but they got away with a lot, too. Forrest Rhyne is a very talented football player, but we did enough."

Mason Frampton also helped the Indians stay in the game with a trio of sacks, including one on third down of Ship's final offensive drive.

"They were really explosive in the first half, and we had so many people to focus on," Frampton said. "But I really think in the second half, it became a little easier once we figured out what they were doing and knew what they were about. We had to put pressure on the pass, 'cause that's where they are really good."

Shippensburg also had a breakout game from Houser, who finished with 92 yards on the ground. Houser did a little bit of everything - he scored once, caught a pass and had an interception.

"Well, our fullback, Philip Torres, has a shoulder problem, so I got some time at fullback, and they get a lot more carries," Houser said. "Our offensive line did a pretty good job against what Waynesboro had. Once I get in that second zone, I know I have to turn it on, and if I get open, I feel pretty confident that I can get away."
