Trojan field hockey team hands G-A 4-1 loss

The Chambersburg field hockey team was coming off a disappointing loss Monday in overtime, and Greencastle-Antrim might have felt the sting of that loss on Wednesday.

The Trojans (3-1) scored twice in the first half and cruised to a 4-1 non-league victory over the Blue Devils at Trojan Stadium.

"That loss really hurt, so we really needed today," Chambersburg coach Jen Amsley said. "And playing Greencastle is usually fun because we get together in the summer and both teams have a good rivalry. They gave us a good game, but the difference was we scored on three penalty corners."

Liza Ernst tallied the first goal of the game on a pass from Trojan teammate Kaylea Garman. Five minutes later, on a corner, Rachel Dusman set up Madison Schmus for the second goal.

Ernst and Dusman were credited with assists on the third goal, which was scored by Morgan Mentzer. Ernst then notched the final goal, with just 39 seconds left in the game, from Sage Piper.

Amsley said, "Liza had a reserve stick ship for one of her goals that was like a college move. She really stole the show tonight and showed off her stick skills."

For the Blue Devils (3-3), Moriah Ricker scored the goal, with an assist going to Lauren Cole.

"Chambersburg was simply the better team tonight," G-A coach Rebecca Rice said. "They were a step faster, more aggressive to the ball, and made smart, unselfish passes. Our girls battled really well, and although we lost, playing competition like this will help us going forward."

"Greencastle gave a good effort," Amsley said. "Rachel Marconi is their most dangerous player and we had Rachel (Dusman) on her and she did a good job."

Amsley said that Schmus and Garman played well in the back for the Trojans - who owned a 21-5 edge in shots and 12-5 in corners - and Garman was involved in the corner plays. She also said Jordyn Amsley and Hannah Raines played well at midfield.

"Jordyn is coming along and she and Hannah complement each other well," Amsley said. "A lot of our kids got involved in te scoring, our spacing was good and we had good passing. It was fun to watch and fun to coach tonight."
