Roundup: Chambersburg falls to Mechanicsburg


CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg's field hockey team suffered a tough loss Monday night, falling 2-1 to Mechanicsburg in a non-league contest.

"We knew coming into this game that Mechanicsburg matched up with us pretty well," Trojan coach Jen Amsley said. "It came down to execution tonight and they did it better than us. Their first goal was off a miscue by us and the second goal came off a penalty corner."

Alex Rebman and Peyton Jackson scored in the first half for the Wildcats (7-5-1).

In the second half, Sage Piper scored with 15:09 left for Chambersburg (6-7), collecting a rebound off the goalie's pads and striking the ball into the right corner of the cage.

The Trojans led in shots (8-4) and corners (6-2).

Amsley said, "We never gave up and almost put one in at the very end of the game, but came up short."

CEDAR CLIFF 1, SHIPPENSBURG 0 >> Olivia Dauby scored the game's only goal with 15:16 left in the game to lift Cedar Cliff over Shippensburg in a non-league game.

She was assisted by Jossie Cook on the game-winner. The Lady Hounds are 5-5-2, while the Colts are 4-8.

FORBES ROAD 8, HUNTINGDON 0 >> Malea Truax, Kiersten Cline and Brittany Truax each scored two goals, and Forbes Road defeated Huntingdon in a Keystone League match. The victory gave the Cardinals the guaranteed league title.

"We started out a bit slow, and actually, Huntingdon did a good job of decreasing our number of shots," Forbes Road coach Carol Cline said. "Their three shots came early in the first half. It took us awhile to get cranking, but things busted out a little in the second half."

Hall finished with a save and two clears for the Cardinals (11-2, 6-0 KL). Malea Truax and Cline also had two assists apiece, and McKenzie Gelvin added a goal and an assist.
