FIELD HOCKEY: Chambersburg pulls off upset over Mifflin County, 1-0

CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg scored with no time left on the clock at the end of the first half and made it stand up for an upset field hockey victory Friday afternoon.

The Trojans took a 1-0 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory over Mifflin County at Trojan Stadium.

As the clock ran out in the half, Chambersburg was awarded a penalty corner. Jordan Amsley inserted the ball to Liza Ernst at the top of the circle. Ernst pulled to the right to avoid a defender and ripped a hard shot into the left corner of the cage.

"Wow, what a win," Trojan coach Jen Amsley said. "We finally pulled off an upset, and it was against a team that had beaten us pretty bad (5-0) at their place. The girls had it in their minds that they were not going to give this game away and we going to work hard to beat them. And we did."

Chambersburg goalie Ari Burke had nine saves total, including a pair of diving stops.

Amsley said, "Ari just played awesome and saved us on a couple of shots. Liza Ernst should be commended for her great defensive play – she saved us a few times as well.

"We are now starting to believe in ourselves and it's showing. Most of the play today was in the midfield and we just happened to capitalize on one penalty corner. It was a great team win today."

Chambersburg is 6-6 (4-6 MPC), while the Huskies dropped to 5-7 (5-4 MPC).
