FIELD HOCKEY: Chambersburg piles up 11 goals in win over CD East

CHAMBERSBURG >> Prior to Wednesday's game against Central Dauphin East, Chambersburg field hockey coach Jen Amsley was a little worried about how her Lady Trojans were going to play.

"I was concerned about the team coming out flat and not ready to play," Amsley said.

However, the tone of readiness for the game was set from the beginning whistle and Chambersburg ended up producing an 11-0 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory at Trojan Stadium, setting a record for goals in a game for an Amsley-coached team.

Within the opening five minutes of play, Molly Keefer netted the team's first goal with an assist from Liza Ernst.

The back-and-forth play continued over the next 10 minutes, with CD East still very much on its heels. The offensive game plan of the Trojans (5-6, 3-6 MPC) then began to fall into place and continued with an even pace of scoring over the rest of the opening half.

Ernst scored unassisted at the 17-minute mark and Kaylea Garmen scored two goals within five minutes of each other. On both goals, the assist came from Rachel Dusman.

The Panthers never truly got any offensive momentum rolling – a total of only three shots in the first half was all that was generated through the Trojans' defensive front. Goalies Ari Burke and Colleen Money saw very little action their way, with only two recorded saves made.

Hannah Raines joined in on the scoring for Chambersburg with an unassisted goal with close to 10 minutes left in the half, followed by a Madison Schmus goal assisted by Sage Piper a couple of minutes later. The Trojans tacked on two more goals – from Garman and Ernst – before the first horn sounded, leaving the score of 8-0 at halftime.

The offensive momentum continued as the Trojans held most of possession in the second half, even though coach Amsley took on a different game plan entering into the second 30 minutes.

"We wanted to pass the ball more," she said, "and we did. We linked several good passes together."

Raines capitalized once again on those good passes as she scored off of a Jordyn Amsley assist at the 23- minute mark. A few short minutes later, Keefer found the net once more for her second goal of the evening and Piper added a final goal for the Trojans with about 10 minutes left in play.

Jen Amsley said, "It was a good team effort. A lot of kids scored, and a lot of kids got in the game. This was a test to see how hungry and ready we were to play field hockey. This game was about getting us ready for Mifflin County."

Chambersburg's next game comes quickly – they play Mifflin County on Friday evening.
