BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Chambersburg falters in straight sets to Cumberland Valley
CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg's boys volleyball team met its match on Thursday evening.
Cumberland Valley captured a 3-0 victory in Mid Penn Commonwealth Division that halted a three-match win streak by the Trojans.
"CV is a good team, and I thought we had great moments throughout the match," Chambersburg coach Marta Cummings said. "Unfortunately, we still struggled to be consistent and gain momentum and runs."
The Trojans (5-8, 4-6 MPC) put up a very nice fight in the second set, which they lost 29-27. But they couldn't muster more than 18 points in either of the other two sets. The Eagles won the first, 25-18, and the third, 25-17.
"I thought we did a good job in Game 2 being aggressive and fighting until game point," Cummings said. "We struggled the entire match to pass, and we weren't able to get our middles the ball, which made our offense too predictable."
Aaron Hoke and Billy Russo led the Trojan offense with seven kills apiece, and Russo had three block-kills. Brady Picking added four kills, and Jayson Solleberger dished out 25 assists.
Russo was also the top server for Chambersburg. He racked up 11 service points, followed by Hoke, who had 10 points and two aces.
