BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Chambersburg struggles in second pool of State College tournament

STATE COLLEGE >> Chambersburg's boys volleyball team had a strong morning at the State College Tournament, but the wheels fell off in the second pool on Saturday.

The Trojans opened the day with a 2-0 sweep of Cambridge, 25-22, 25-20, followed by a split with Lancaster Mennonite (LM 25-22, Chbg 25-22) and Pennridge (Pen 25-13, Chbg 25-23). But in the second pool, Chambersburg split with St. Joseph (SJ 25-22, Chbg 25-22) before being swept by both Ambridge (25-22, 25-22) and Central Dauphin (25-21, 27-25).

"We played pretty well in the morning pool," Trojan coach Marta Cummings said. "We got a little tired in the afternoon and struggled to put runs together."

Riley Washington led the Trojans with 20 kills, and Aaron Hoke and Landon Miller had 16 and 14, respectively. Jayson Sollenberger finished with 69 assists and 24 digs, and Ian Patterson totaled 22 digs and 33 service points. Will Gerhart also had 20 digs.

Cummings said, "It was nice to play a variety of teams we haven't seen yet this year. The guys did a much better job of adjusting to the other teams and putting the ball away when they had the opportunity."
