H.S. TRACK & FIELD: Public Opinion releases boys & girls all-star teams

There were a number of records that fell and medals collected during this year's track & field season.

Now, those athletes are being honored with spots on the Public Opinion All-Star teams.

Mercersburg Academy's Tatiana Purnell earned the top spot on the girls team after having a strong overall year. She capped off the year by setting meet records in both the 100 and 300 hurdles at the Pa. Independent Schools Athletic Association state meet. Purnell won gold medals with times of 15.19 and 44.34 seconds, respectively.

Lilly Harnish, of Waynesboro, also finished off a very strong career with a fourth-place medal in the high jump at the PIAA Championships. She also won the District 3 title in the event.

On the boys side, Fannett-Metal's Tom Peppernick had a breakout season. After collecting gold in the discus and the shot put at the District 5 Championship – including a district-record breaking discus throw of 169-1 – he won second in the discus at states.

James Buchanan's Peter Hughey defended his 400 title at the District 3 Championships then added a fourth-place finish at states to close out his high school career.
