TRACK & FIELD: Wednesday's roundup


POTTSTOWN >> The Mercersburg Academy track & field teams ventured to Hill School on Wednesday for the Pa. Independent Schools Athlete Association state meet. The Blue Storm girls placed third among 16 teams and the boys were eighth in a 15-team field.

For the girls, Tatiana Purcell won a pair of events, the 100 and 300 hurdles, and set meet records in both. She ran a 15.19 in the 100 and a 44.34 in the 300. Finley Stewart had a big day, winning the 100 in a school record time of 12.35 and placing third in the 200. The other winner was Isiuwa Oghagbon, who captured the shot put with a toss of 38-6.35, and she was also the runner-up in the discus and javelin.

In addition, Teal Tasker placed fourth in the triple jump and helped Purcell and Stewart place fifth in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

For the boys, Danny Shapiro was the top individual. He placed second in the javelin and discus. Thomas Vallano was third in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Brice Sydnor came in fourth in the 300 hurdles.
